Description

Description

Hypoxic Chamber

The Whitley H155 HEPA Hypoxic Chamber is a large-capacity controlled environment workstation designed for cell culture, live-cell imaging, incubation, and analysis under precise hypoxic conditions. With a usable internal capacity of 1,900 litres, it provides ample working space for laboratory equipment while maintaining controlled oxygen levels and a clean internal environment.

What is a Hypoxic Chamber?

A hypoxic chamber is a controlled laboratory environment designed to maintain oxygen levels below normal atmospheric conditions. It allows researchers to culture, manipulate, incubate, and analyse cells under controlled oxygen, carbon dioxide, temperature, and humidity conditions without repeatedly exposing samples to ambient air.

Hypoxic Chamber vs Hypoxic Workstation

Hypoxic Chamber Hypoxic Workstation
Controlled low-oxygen environment Controlled low-oxygen working environment
Used for cell and tissue research Designed for manipulation, culture and analysis
Maintains controlled atmospheric conditions Allows researchers to work inside the controlled environment
May refer broadly to the enclosed system Often used for integrated laboratory workstations

The terms hypoxic chamber and hypoxic workstation are often used interchangeably in laboratory research, although a workstation generally emphasizes the ability to perform hands-on cell manipulation within the controlled environment.

Why HEPA filtration matters?

The H155 HEPA Hypoxystation incorporates an internal HEPA filtration system to maintain high levels of atmospheric cleanliness inside the workstation. The system is designed to achieve cleanliness levels exceeding ISO 14644 Class 3 requirements, supporting sensitive cell culture and laboratory applications.

Rapid Airlocks for Controlled Sample Transfer

Two independent 16-litre airlocks allow materials and samples to be transferred into and out of the hypoxic chamber while helping maintain the controlled environment. Each airlock completes its cycle in approximately 60 seconds.

Equipment That Can Be Accommodated

The spacious H155 chamber can accommodate laboratory equipment such as:

  • Live-cell imaging systems
  • Microscopes
  • Culture equipment
  • Incubation equipment
  • Other compatible laboratory instruments

Overview

Overview

The generous internal height facilitates easy pipetting and all cell manipulations can be performed without removing them from your required hypoxic conditions. The H155 HEPA is equipped with the Whitley Internal HEPA Filtration System. Levels of atmospheric cleanliness inside the workstation exceed the requirements of ISO 14644 Class 3 and we can provide proof of atmospheric cleanliness.

This workstation provides precise environmental control whilst leaving plenty of room to work, incubate and conduct analysis. Two rapid 16 litre airlocks prevent compromising conditions inside the chamber when you are entering and exiting. The airlocks operate independently and take only 60 seconds to run a cycle. Each airlock can accommodate 10 x 500ml Duran bottles.

If you need to aspirate biological liquid waste from inside the chamber, order with a Vacuum Take-off Port and the Whitley AsPROvac for the perfect package.

  • Precise control of oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitrogen – provides flexibility in your research and confidence in your results.
  • The Whitley Internal HEPA Filtration System with optional Enhanced Biological Containment.
  • Two removable fronts (each fitted with two patented oval ports) facilitate the transfer of large items of equipment for use inside the chamber.
  • Innovative, full colour touch screen that is Ethernet-enabled for remote access. Now you can log into your workstation when you are away from the laboratory.
  • Fully automated oxygen calibration routine (patent pending) – activated via the touchscreen with no need to touch or remove the sensor – saves time, no risk of user error and ensures the accuracy of your results.
  • Other options include double internal power socket, refrigeration, front loading single sample entry system, cable glands and storage trays.
